Gomoku game rules
Five in a Row is a very simple board game, also called Gomoku.
Board and pieces
A Go style board is used: a grid made up of 15 vertical and 15 horizontal lines, at whose intersections the white and black pieces are placed by each of the two players involved.
Movements
On their turn, each player places a token of their color in any of the free positions on the board.
The player with the black pieces starts the game.
The objective of the game is to make a row of 5 pieces of the same color, either horizontally, vertically or diagonally.
In order to balance the advantage of starting the game (the player with black pieces), Ludoteka establishes a particular rule for this player:
- The first piece is always placed at the central intersection of the board.
- The second move (after the first one by the white player) must be made with a limitation: the central intersections of the board located in a 5x5 square can´t be used.
Endgame
The game is won by the first player to make a row of 5 pieces of their color horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
